The Coinage of Aegina began in the 6th century BC. The front has a sea turtle design, while the back has a punch mark, found on most coins at that time.

The famous tetradrachms of Rhodes bear a depiction of the head of Helios, identified with Apollo, which is the main numismatic type on Rhodian coins. The representation of the rose on the reverse is a «punning representation» of the name of the city (rose, in Greek rhodon), which was famous for its roses, after which it was named.

Arethusa is sometimes identified with Artemis, and also with Persephone, the Spring goddess. Her image on coins is usually accompanied by dolphins, which were common in the sea around Ortygia in classical times. The coins of Arethusa are arguably the most beautiful minted by the ancient Greeks.

In Greek mythology, a little owl (Athene noctua) traditionally represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, or Minerva, her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology Because of such association, the bird—often referred to as the "owl of Athena" or the "owl of Minerva"—has been used as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, perspicacity and erudition throughout the Western world

The best known representation of Herakles on a coin. This image, on coins of silver and bronze, was spread throughout the empire of Alexander the Great. It shows his head wearing a lion-skin headdress. On the reverse of the bronze coins were his weapons, a bow and arrow-case and a large club. His club was the weapon shown most often; it is a suitable implement for a hugely strong hero to wield.

Medusa Gorgoneion was originally a horror-creating apotropaic pendant showing the Gorgon’s head. It was associated with the deities Zeus and Athena; both are said to have worn it as a pendant.
