Corinthian Stater, a copy of an ancient Greek coin
0.748 inch - 19mm Handmade Sterling Silver
On the obverse it has the figure of Goddess Athena wearing a Corinthian helmet and on the reverse side it has the figure of Pegasus the mythological winged horse, Qoppa symbolize the archaic spelling of the city (Qορινθος). The Stater, as Greek currency, first as ingots, and later as coin, circulated from 8th century BC, To AC 50. The Corinth Pegasus bears the winged horse Pegasus, aligned with both Athena and with Poseidon, on its front. On the reverse, it bears the head of  Athena, Greek goddess of both wisdom and war. The artwork on the coins is quite refined in contrast with other ancient coins of the time, the Athens Owl and the Aegina Turtle.
Even the earliest examples of the Pegasus stater show well-defined features on Athena's head, and a suggestion of feathered lines on the wings of the Pegasus. Pegasus appears on many coins from the ancient world, but it is the Corinthian silver stater that is most highly prized, both for its beauty and for its history. Because of his years of faithful service to Zeus, Pegasus was later honored with transformation into a constellation. On the day of his catasterism, when Zeus transformed him into a
constellation and a single feather fell to the earth near the city of Tarsus.
The symbolism of Pegasus varies with time. Symbolic of wisdom and especially of fame from the Middle Ages until the Renaissance, Pegasus became associated with poetry around the 19th century, as the originator or fountainhead of sources
from which the poets gained their inspiration.
